Akari Japanese Restaurant

It was very dissapointing that there were no waitresses who could speak Japanese. I learned Japanese in my late highschool years so I only know so much, but I would of thought that people who work in Japanese restaurants would understand some basic words and so on. I guess I thought I was at a Japanese restaurant, but it was just a Korean-owned place.

Wow, I just went here after the recommendations and reviews online- I had their prawn tempura, deluxe sashimi and spicy delight and my wife had one of their dinner boxes which came with various side dishes, sunomono and teriyaki.
Their tempura batter is very different- not at all greasy or heavy, almost like a fluffy, crispy batter with the freshness of the prawns. I am hooked. The teriyaki sauce was just right with a bit of a smoky flavour that's hard to achieve. The sashimi wasn't butchered like so many other so-called Japanese joints. You can tell the chefs here had some sort of training in the artistry of sushi making.

Service was good that day. Management was on the floor and she took good care of us, making sure to check on us often and making sure we're happy.

Overall Recommended Japanese.

After living in the Osaka for several years, I've been searching for a good Japanese restaurant in the Lower Mainland and Akari is on par with the authenticity and taste of Japan. I've been here countless times and I have yet to be disappointed.
Why they decided to open in Delta, is baffling as they can do just as well, if not better in a more central location.
The wait staff are friendly and prompt and the sashimi are prepared skillfully. Many items on the menu aren't offered in any other restaurants in the area. I would recommend it to anyone looking for quality, authenticity and reasonably priced Japanese.

Took my father for dinner last night. We live in the Burnaby area, however tried this place from a recommendation from a friend. We were thinking more of the typical

hmm... service was ok...
food, kind of expensive...
use salmon belly for sashimi instead of the back part...
nigiri sushi with very thin fish on top which cannot cover the whole rice ball...
but it feels good when sitting in there

The second best sushi I have ever had (first best being Tojos's) As Tojos is considerably more expensive, Akari is tops for the money. My wife and I have been eating at Akari since it first opened and have always been very happy with the food, service and the attitude of the owners and the staff.
